Is stainless steel non–magnetic?
- Usually we used 300 series material of austenitic stainless steel as decorative tube or plate. For the most part, they are non-magnetic or weakly magnetic. However, due to casting caused by chemical composition fluctuations or processing status, they may also appear to be magnetic.
- Since the composition of segregation or heat treatment is not sufficient, it will cause 300 series austenitic of stainless steel containing a little of martensite or ferrite organization. Therefore, 300 series of stainless steel will be weakly magnetic, but the heat treatment mentioned above is to meet the requirements of mechanical properties.
- In addition, after cold working on 300 series of stainless steel , the organization will be converted into the martensite. The greater deformation of cold working, the more organizational conversion of martensite and the greater the magnetic properties of stainless steel.
- To eliminate the above-mentioned causes of the magnet of 300 series of stainless steel, we can use the high temperature solid solution annealing to stabilize the austenitic organization.
The prediction for δ-ferrite content in welding line
- We will bring alloy elements of austenitic stainless steel into the formula which is the chromium equivalent and nickel equivalent correction proposed by Shaeffler Diagram to do the forecast of δ-ferrite content.
